Comic-Con Fan Frenzy Builds for Jackson’s ‘The Hobbit’

Peter Jackson’s holiday epic The Hobbit continues to generate huge fan interest among fanboys and web audiences. This past weekend, the Warner Bros. movie released a special Comic-Con poster that unleashed an overwhelmingly positive response around the world. The poster features Gandalf the Wizard (Sir Ian McKellan) walking along a path in the magical Middle-earth setting.The director/producer wrote on this Facebook page, “Hi everyone. Here’s an exclusive Comic-Con poster. Be sure to get your copy in San Diego and let me know what you think of it! Cheers, Peter J.”Fans can get a taste of the first Hobbit film on Saturday, July 14 in Hall H, during the Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures Preview. The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey will be released in theaters Dec. 14, and its sequel The Hobbit: There and Back Again will arrive in time for the 2014 holiday season. Martin Freeman (The Office, Sherlock) stars as the prequel’s hero Bilbo Baggins, while Benedict Cumberbatch (Sherlock, the upcoming Star Trek sequel) is providing motion capture and the voices of Necromancer and Smaug.

Nick Sets Premiere Date for ‘Ninja Turtles’


Cowabunga, dudes! Nickelodeon has set Saturday, September 29 as the premiered date for its new, much-anticipated CG-animated Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles series. The one-hour special event will begin at 11 a.m. on the date. The 26-episode, half-hour action-comedy series breathes new life into the wildly popular band of reptile brothers played by Jason Biggs (American Pie) as Leonardo, Sean Astin (Lord of the Rings) as Raphael, Greg Cipes (Teen Titans) as Michelangelo and Rob Paulsen (Planet Sheen) as Donatello. Paulsen also voiced the original Raphael from 1987-1996 in the very first TMNT series.Rounding out the cast in the series’ key roles are: Mae Whitman (Parenthood) as April O’Neil, a gutsy and independent 16-year-old who befriends the Turtles after they save her from an alien attack; Hoon Lee (Royal Pains) as “Master Splinter,” the Turtles’ sensei and father figure and Kevin Michael Richardson (Penguins of Madagascar) as Shredder, the commander of an evil ninja army called the Foot Clan and one of the deadliest martial artists in the world.Nickelodeon’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles begins as the turtles emerge from their hidden lair in the sewers for the very first time, ready to confront the wondrous and hostile world of New York City and face enemies more dangerous and pizza more delicious than anything they could have imagined. ‘Rise of the Guardians’ Releases New Trailer


A lot of solid buzz has been building around DreamWorks’ upcoming holiday movie Rise of the Guardians, which unites Santa Claus with the Easter Bunny, the Tooth Fairy, the Sandman and Jack Frost against the dark forces of Pitch (aka The Boogeyman). You can get a look at the latest trailer, which tells the story from Jack Frost’s point of view online today. The film, which is directed by Peter Ramsey and produced by Christina Steinberg, also showcases excellent voice work by Alec Baldwin, Hugh Jackman, Isla Fisher, Chris Pine and Jude Law. The pic is based on books by Oscar-winning author, illustrator, animator and director William Joyce. It will be released on November 21st.

Tom Hanks’ ‘Electric City’ to Debut on Yahoo on July 17



The new animated project exec produced and voiced by Tom Hanks will premiere on Yahoo.com on July 17. The show, which is titled Electric City, was originally announced in January. Hank’s Playtone and Reliance Entertainment are behind the project, which will be available on Yahoo.com. Other celebrity voices include Jeanne Tripplehorn, Ginnifer Goodwin, Holland Taylor and Chris Parnell.The online web series is described as a thriller set in a post-apocalyptic world where electricity is the most prized energy. The 10 x 5-7-minutes series will be made available on Yahoo on July 17. Reliance’s Jump Games has developed an app for iOs or Android that opens up the project as a role-playing game and other extras that build on the show’s narrative.

BBC Unveils Animated Olympic Games Trailer

The BBC offered a sneak peek at the titles sequence and marketing campaign for the London 2012 Olympic Games this past weekend. A 60-second trailer was broadcast during half-time in the Euro 2012 final. Based on a “Stadium UK” concept, the animation will be seen on television coverage and used on computers, mobiles, tablets and connected TV.In the sequence animated by Passion Pictures, the U.K. is seen as a giant stadium with Olympic athletes preparing and competing in a range of landscapes. Scenes include swimmers battling it out in lanes created by buoys on a net cast by a fisherman, a BMX rider preparing at the edge of a cliff, track cyclists racing around quarries and sprinters and gymnasts going through their paces on the streets.
According to BBC 2012 marketing head Louisa Fyans, the challenge had been to create a campaign reflecting the BBC’s unique role as the UK’s Olympic broadcaster and the scale of the Olympic Games.“Animation enabled us to deliver to this brief and helped us create something really special for the BBC’s London 2012 campaign,” she added. The concept was devised by creative agency Rainey Kelly Campbell Roalfe Y&R, animated by Passion Pictures and produced by Red Bee Media. The full 2 minutes and 40 seconds version of the spot will broadcast at 19.30 BST on Tuesday 3 July on BBC One with 60, 40, 30 and five second edits used throughout the campaign.

Nick Plans Special ‘SpongeBob’ Marathon in July

Nickelodeon is planning a special SpongeBob SquarePants marathon for Saturday July 21. ‘Frankenweenie’ to Premiere at Austin’s Fantastic Fest
